Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City on arrival
Upon arrival in Ho Chi Minh City, our guide welcomes you at the airport and then transfers you to the hotel, starting the Trails of Vietnam 18-Day Trip. Welcome dinner on the Saigon River cruise.

Day 2: Ho Chi Minh City-Cu Chi City Tour
Drive to Cu Chi Tunnels, an incredible underground system covering nearly 250km, was shelter to over 16,000 locals and communist guerillas during the war. Return to the city for lunch. Afternoon: The city tour of dynamic Ho Chi Minh City, still called Saigon by many locals, includes Notre Dame Cathedral, the Old Post Office, and the War Museum, where we can view the displays and photographs during the Vietnam War in the 1970s. Photo stop at the Reunification Palace, the democratic regime of former South Vietnam. Afternoon: Enjoy shopping at Ben Thanh Market.

Day 3: Ho Chi Minh City-Phan Thiet
Overland to Phan Thiet via a rubber and dragon-fruit plant en route. On arrival, visit Cham Temple, then proceed to your resort. The rest of the day is free for leisure (optional: beach activities or a bike ride to a fishing village).

Day 4: Phan Thiet-Nha Trang
Morning is free at leisure. Afternoon overland to Nha Trang via Ca Na Beach and Po Klong Gia Rai Cham Towers in Phan Rang Town. Upon arrival, visit Cham Ponagar Sanctuary, which is decorated with divine animal statues and other Hindu shrines. Discover Hon Chong Promontory, an isolated site where huge rocks pile up strangely, and transfer to a hotel.

Day 5: Nha Trang
Board a boat at Cau Da Port to some of the nearby islands, and there are opportunities to swim, snorkel in the clear, warm water, or nap under the umbrella on the sand. Afternoon, return to shore and visit Dam Market for shopping.

Day 6: Nha Trang-Quy Nhon
A free morning to relax in Nha Trang. Afternoon: drive 250 km across picturesque coastal plains to Qui Nhon. Upon arrival, a new destination for relaxation where romantic seaside resorts with impeccable service can be found in the Tay Son Museum, famous for its show of traditional martial arts backed up by battle drums. Overnight in Quy Nhon.

Day 7: Quy Nhon-Hoi An
Overland to Hoi An via the My Lai massacre site in Quang Ngai, where hundreds of villagers were indiscriminately fired upon in 1968. Continue to Hoi An, the ancient seaport city in the central part of Vietnam in the early 16th century. The rest of the day is free for leisure. Choose to visit many tailor or handicraft shops or relax on the beach just outside town. Alternatively, join a popular cooking class.

Day 8: Hoi An
Walking tour through the narrow, winding streets of the Ancient Quarter, visiting Phuc Kien Temple, Chinese Assembly Halls, the 200-year-old Tan Ky ancestral house, the Japanese-covered bridge, and the colorful local markets. Afternoon: Take an hour to drive to visit Marble Mountains and Non-Nuoc Beach.

Day 9: Free day in Hoi An
A day at leisure for you to wander the many tailor shops or, for early risers, join the optional morning cookery class at Red Bridge Cooking School. Begin with a visit to the colorful market to purchase your ingredients, followed by a short cruise to the cooking school, where a two-hour lesson follows. You can also choose an optional afternoon tour to the UNESCO-listed Cham ruins of My Son.

Day 10: Hoi An-Hue
Depart Hoi An to Hue by road over the mighty Hai Van Pass for a whole view of the Pacific Ocean and visit the famous Lang Co fishing village. Upon arrival, take a dragon boat trip on the romantically named Perfume River, which visits Hue’s best-known religious site, Thien Mu Pagoda, the mausoleum of former Emperor Minh Mang in a tranquil setting of gardens and lakes, and the Imperial Citadel, from which the Nguyen dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945. Tonight, enjoy a royal-style dinner.

Day 11: Hue-Ha Noi
Visit the elaborate mausoleums of Emperor Tu Duc and Khai Dinh. Fly to Hanoi, visit the Ethnology Museum, and then take a tour of Hanoi's Old Quarter by Cyclo.
In the evening, enjoy a traditional Vietnamese water puppet show. Overnight stay in Hanoi.

Day 12: Ha Noi-Halong
Depart Hanoi for Ha Long Bay and drive past some of the beautiful rural landscape before arriving at the World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay in the afternoon. Upon arrival in Ha Long Bay, board the deluxe Junk Cruise. Enjoy welcome drinks and lunch with freshly caught seafood served on board. The junk will sail, passing amazing-shaped mountains. Stop to visit Sung Sot Cave. Then we sail to Ti Top Beach and Mountain, where we can go for a swim or explore approximately 400 steps to the top of the mountain to take beautiful panorama pictures of Ha Long Bay and view the sunset. Overnight on board

Day 13: Ha Long, Hanoi, and Lao Cai

Tonight, board the night train to Lao Cai.

Day 14: Lao Cai-Sapa
Wake up early and marvel at the remarkable scenery as you roll into Lao Cai, which borders China to the north. Visit Sapa’s market to see traders selling their wares, journey to the top of Ham Rong Mountain, and marvel at the scenic panorama from this hilltop location. Visit a local village to gain insight into the life and culture of these unique hill people. Return to your hotel in the afternoon for one night.

Day 15: Sapa to Hanoi

Return to your Sapa hotel to freshen up and transfer to Lao Cai for your overnight train journey back to Hanoi.

The afternoon is free for leisure. Overnight stay in Hanoi.

Day 17: Ha Noi, Hoa Lu, and Trang An

Enjoy a peaceful tour of the remarkable caves of Trang An ecological tourist site. The valleys and river together, together constitute a mysterious and amazing scene.
